Have you visited downtown Morristown on Main Street lately? We are so proud of the new renovations being done to our famous and unique Skywalk system, buildings and crosswalks this year. The Skywalk system is 42 years old this year and has finally received it's first coat of paint. Out with the old dark grey concrete and in with the new bright latte color! It has been a project in the waiting for over 20 years and we are so pleased to finally get it done.

Other projects completed already this year are stamping and painting the crosswalks to give them a brick like appearance, cleaning of sidewalks, and a adopt a spot project to bring more beautiful flowers downtown. We will also be doing a going green project with new bike racks, a directory sign and recycle containers. We are also expecting a new round of the very popular facade renovation grant to improve the building appearances.

Downtown Morristown Tennessee Businesses are Thriving. Eleven out of the thirty-three businesses nominated for the 2010 Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards are businesses located downtown. These final nominees are out of hundreds of entries of small businesses in Morristown and several thousand Chamber members.

The top two awards on April 22nd went to McFarland Medical (Winner of the 2010 Small Business of the Year Award) and Jersey Girl Diner (Winner of the 2010 Horizon Award) which demonstrates that downtown businesses are thriving in this new economy and are committed to excellence and community service. This is the second year in a row that downtown businesses have been awarded honors for excellence in small business at the annual event and we are looking forward to a banner year in 2010.

These are exciting times for Downtown Morristown and despite the new economy we are marching forward with improvements and events to make Morristown a great place to live, shop and dine.

We invite new members in the form of regular membership or the new "Friends of Downtown" membership. Friends of Downtown membership is open to anyone who wants to help support the progress as well as historical preservation of downtown for only $25 donation per year.
